On June 20, 2008 a formal ceremony was held in Vientiane, Laos to mark the historic signing of the Copper Mineral Exploration Agreement between the Government of the Lao PDR and Amanta Resources Ltd. This represents a significant achievement for Amanta, and is the culmination of over two years of negotiation.
Results of Amanta’s early reconnaissance work on the property (see June 25, 2008 news release) have been extremely encouraging, indicating the potential for a large porphyry system. Results to date are centred around what appears to be an intermediate porphyritic intrusive, which is the site of a major vegetation anomaly. To the southeast of the anomaly, samples and outcrops routinely return values up to 5% Cu along with 4 oz./tonne Ag. To the north of the anomaly a large outcrop has been encountered, which yields assays up to 0.8% Mo along with 0.9 g/t Au. The outcrop has so far been traced for 100 metres and is at least 10 metres thick.
Mobilization is now underway for the next phase of work on the concession area, which will include detailed systematic surface sampling and mapping over a block of eight square kilometres, representing the presently known mineralized areas. In addition, reconnaissance work will be carried out over the balance of the 200 sq. km area. This work will be followed by airborne Magnetic and EM surveys and will take approximately 6 - 9 months to complete.
